Who else loved the peanut butter and jelly combo as a kid? I apparently can’t stop talking about it, because I’ve done it a few times before.
‘White Chocolate Peanuty Cookies‘ with a touch of Jam…
It just won’t get old, and of course you know that the love for nut butter has not died down over here with that … um… ultimate nut butter gift guide.
There are so many peanut butters out there, from the Skippy to Jif to Naturally Nutty.
Naturally Nutty Butter Toffee peanut butter is the one that I chose to highlight in this fun recipe, but I hope to actually highlight another peanut butter that comes from, HINT, one of the very first ‘flavored peanut butter companies’ that I discovered in the U.S.
I may have added a bit of chocolate covered peanut butter candy to those slices of French bread slathered with jelly. I just discovered these Ocho Candy Bars, and boy they are so good!
Every time I do a recipe, I get a new respect and growing respect for all the ladies and gentlemen who spend hours on food staging and food photography. Y’all are SERIOUSLY gifted; and I’m so thankful that God made us all different. I learn from you and your carefulness about taking pictures of food.
Months ago, I probably would not have cared, but following food bloggers has been a fun way of growing in an appreciation for food blogging, the art of food, and the HARD work that goes into every step.
It makes me want to sing…. ‘I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.’ (Psalm 138:1)
Can I talk about how cool the Farmer Direct Oats are?
I love that these bags of oats have smaller crumbles that mix into your baked goodies much better than normal oats. Of course, I still love normal oats, but I have to say that these Farmer Direct oats are spoiling me already. They would make a perfect baked oatmeal or Strawberry Crumble French Toast bake for your Christmas breakfast.
I asked them about their story and this is what they shared.
‘As far as the co-op, we wanted to be champions of fairly traded, certified organic food. We started back on 2002 after seeing and experiencing the unfair treatment of farmers related to pricing, logistics, and transparency by distributors. Our mission is to benefit our farmer co-op members and strives to market their organic products, while also building and promoting a healthy environment and socially just food system. ‘
I’ve always been a person who wasn’t really as mindful as I should be about where food comes from, but God made man to be stewards of the earth, and I want to be part of taking care of this earth as long as I’m hear, until the new heavens and the new earth comes. I firmly believe that you don’t need to be ‘obsessed’ about it or worship the earth, but rather worship the God who made it, because He is beyond our comprehension, AWESOME and AMAZING.
This makes me super grateful for companies like Farmer Direct and so many other Fair Trade Chocolate companies. Kaila especially sparked thought about chocolate when it comes to ‘Do You Know Your Cocoa?’
The Just Jan’s Spreads?
This was an amazing story. I was listening to Nicole Culver’s Blissful Bites podcast, and she was interviewing Jan. I loved Jan’s story, and I thought, ‘Wow, I wonder what Fig Jam is like?’ I thought, ‘Well, it wouldn’t hurt to reach out to Jan and see if she wants to collab.’ Long story short: She did want to, and I have a little store of jams just waiting to be used for recipes.
The coolest part about her jams?
A. This strawberry spread has less sugar and all organic ingredients. The ingredients are:
Strawberries
Cane Sugar
Lemon Juice Concentrate
Pectin
That’s all. And the flavor of the fruit is absolutely incredible; the strawberry shines through the jam. I can’t wait to share the first experience with fig jam.

Sorry. I feel like I’m rambling, but I wanted to share that as part of the heart behind the recipe.
Strawberry Crumble Stuffed French Toast
Prep: | Cook: | Yield: 9 |
A soft, satisfying, and not too sweet but REALLY fluffy slice of Peanut Butter and Jelly all in one pan of French Toast.
You'll Need...
- 18 THIN slices French Bread
- 18 tsp. peanut butter (any kind)
- 18 tsp. Just Jan's Strawberry Jam
- 4 eggs
- 2/3 cups Califia Farms Almond 'Nog
- 1/3 cup Brown Cow Maple Cream Top Yogurt
- Crumble:
- 1/2 cup Farmer Direct Oats
- 1 tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tbsp. Just Jan's Strawberry Jam
- 1 Tbsp. Peanut Butter (or any other nut butter)
- 1/4 cup Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Mix or 1/4 cup of any kind of flour
Directions
- Grease an 8x8 pan with butter or olive oil. Beat together eggs, Califia Almond 'Nog, and Brown Cow yogurt. Layer 9 slices of French bread in the pan. Spread the bottom pieces with 1 tsp. each of strawberry jelly. Spread the other 9 pieces with 1 tsp each of peanut butter (it doesn't have to be precise). Pour the egg mixture over top of the 'PB&J' sandwiches.
- Next make your crumble. Use a fork to mix the oats, Kodiak Cakes mix, peanut butter and jelly. Crumble it over the French bread.
- Refrigerate the mixture overnight, or if you forget, you can make it in the morning.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees in the morning. Bake casserole for 30-35 minutes, depending on how 'cooked' you like your French toast.
- And have a WONDERFUL Christmas morning savoring the hope, the delight, the life, the light of Jesus Christ who came to gave this world NEW LIFE.
Now that we’ve inundated you with the delight of strawberries and peanut butter for breakfast for Christmas, I want to leave you with this meditation from Scripture.
‘O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?’ (Psalm 139:1-8)
That the God of the universe knows me and loves me and sees me and searches me out, all because of His Son Jesus Christ, all because of His great love for people like me is absolutely incredible. It blows my mind and comforts my soul at the same time.
